Hi guys and gals!
This post is not about what may have happened on 18/9, but rather a way of looking at ways of ensuring future votes are not tampered with.
Notwithstanding all the accusations, possible evidence, etc of vote rigging that we have all seen flying around the interwebs, some of which has been debunked, and some which may be true, we cannot deny that the potential was there for this to happen, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions on how we can prevent this happening in future elections? If any of these allegations are true, whether publicly admitted or not, there is no reason for those same people not to fix the next GE so that the SNP do not get the majority they need in Scotland in order to push for UDI. We would need to have a system which is unimpeachable, even to spooks. I have considered various options, and would like to put forward the following proposals:
1. Finger print or retina scan ID. If there is insufficient time to set this up (even if it was only within Scotland), Photo ID, Proof of Address, and Signature.
2. No transporting of ballot boxes. Votes should be counted at the polling stations, and the results fed through by video conferencing. Observed by one rep from each party.
3. Computerised voting within polling stations, but results held on a local intranet, with no connection to the internet, to avoid the possibility of hacking.
Results would again be collated locally, and fed into a local authority database, as well as through video conferencing.
4. HD quality video monitoring of vote counting shown on large screens within the counting area, as well as one observer from each party
5. All polling clerks should undergo enhanced disclosure, and had checks to ensure they are not aligned to any political party or organisation. (This could include trade unions)
6. If ballot boxes must be transported, they should have an unimpeachable chain of custody, including complete lockdown of access to ballot boxes (similar to bank security vans) and keys to padlocks should travel in a separate vehicle.
These are just some of my thoughts, and I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.
