At last a site where everything is in one place. Hi my mum and dad took us away from Scotland in 1975 to live in South Africa, my dad was a steel man, they knew this was dying in scotland so along with their disallusionment for the goverment then we immigrated. (YEP I know wasnt exactly the perfect goverment there either) but the work was plentifull and we had a fantastic upbringing. Living in a town with a steel mill on your doorstop importing british experience meant that we grew up within a british type community. Being Scottish meant a lot it was a badge worn with pride. (I will never forget what it was like when the movie braveheart came out) you need to understand that their was no tv,'s until 1976 there and trying to see british programs was a nightmare you would get the odd vhs tape of blind date that was so stretched you could hardly watch it. Although there are facts that are distorted in the movie, I in my heart started to feel a burn towards Freedom for scotland. I have been back in scotland since 1999 and live with my partner who is scottish but also grew up in South Africa. I am 49 and cant have kids, but I voted YES so that the next generation can have a better life, and on the selfish side.......to make me feel that burn for Freedom again in my heart
